Publisher Traffic Goals and Revenue per Visitor Planning

Translate a display-ad goal into required pageviews while tracking revenue per unique visitor.

How to use these calculators

A website publisher may see pageviews rise while revenue per visitor falls. Start with expected page RPM to calculate the pageview target, then check revenue per unique visitor using a consistent analytics period. The two denominators are different: page RPM uses pageviews, while revenue per visitor uses distinct people.

A worked scenario

Goal $1,000 in display income, assumed page RPM $8; separate period revenue $1,200 with 15,000 visitors.

Traffic target: 125,000 pageviews; revenue per visitor: $0.08.

Do not substitute 15,000 visitors for pageviews; the two measures have different denominators.

How to plan this decision

  1. Check analytics units

Confirm clean human pageviews, unique visitors and revenue cover the same month.

  2. Calculate and cross-check

Model target traffic at conservative, central and optimistic page RPM values.

  3. Decide what matters

Track both traffic volume and monetization efficiency when planning new content.
