Estimate eBay seller fees and proceeds before listing
The eBay seller fee calculator helps estimate marketplace deductions and the amount remaining from a sale. Use category-, market-, store-, promotion-, and account-specific rates for a meaningful result.
Formula
Worked example
Before listing an item, model its expected selling price, shipping charged to the buyer, applicable fee rate, promoted listing rate, and direct fulfillment cost. Compare the net result with the item's acquisition cost.
The final value fee can depend on more than item price
Fee treatment can vary by marketplace, category, store subscription, seller performance, promotion, and the components of the order total. Use the current official fee table for the seller account.
Do not reuse a rate from a different category or country. Even a small percentage difference can materially affect low-margin or high-value items.
Calculate profit after marketplace fees
Net proceeds are not the same as profit. Subtract acquisition cost, refurbishment, packaging, postage, insurance, labor, expected returns, and other direct costs.
Test promoted and organic sales separately. A promoted listing can increase visibility but should be evaluated by the additional profitable sales it creates.
Before publishing an eBay listing
- Confirm marketplace, category, and store subscription.
- Use the order components included in the applicable fee base.
- Add promoted listing charges only when relevant.
- Compare net proceeds with the complete landed product cost.
