Estimate Shopify selling and payment costs per order
Use the Shopify fee calculator to test how payment-processing charges, third-party transaction fees, subscriptions, apps, discounts, and fulfillment affect an order. Rates should be entered from the merchant's current plan and payment setup.
Formula
Worked example
Compare one scenario using Shopify Payments with another using an external payment provider. Include the rate and fixed fee that apply to the merchant's plan, then compare net proceeds rather than only the displayed percentage.
Plan, country, and payment provider change the estimate
Shopify plan pricing and payment arrangements can vary by market and may change over time. A merchant using Shopify Payments may face a different cost structure from one using a third-party gateway.
Use current official plan information and account-specific terms. Keep subscription and app costs separate from transaction-level charges unless allocating them across expected monthly orders.
Convert monthly platform costs into an order-level view
To estimate a fully loaded platform cost per order, divide recurring monthly software expense by realistic monthly order volume, then add variable transaction and fulfillment costs.
Run low-, expected-, and high-volume cases. A more expensive plan can lower some transaction rates, but the savings must exceed the higher recurring cost before it improves total economics.

- Payment provider, card channel, percentage rate, and fixed fee.
- Any third-party provider transaction charge.
