Affiliate Earnings and Content Payback Planning

Estimate affiliate commissions and compare content production expense with attributable earnings.

How to use these calculators

Affiliate projections require both conversion assumptions and eligible order values. A successful article can send many clicks yet generate few qualifying orders; content ROI then depends on total cost and actual cash receipts. Model click economics first and apply the content investment ROI tool with realistic attribution boundaries.

A worked scenario

2,000 qualifying clicks, 3% eligible conversions, $80 qualifying basket, 5% commission. Content costs $900 to create and $300 to maintain.

Illustrative commission: $240; if $2,400 total revenue is attributed to the content, content ROI is 100%.

The revenue totals are deliberately different scenarios. Avoid using hypothetical affiliate commissions as booked revenue.

How to plan this decision

  1. Track eligible clicks

Use qualified outbound clicks rather than all pageviews or ad impressions.

  2. Reconcile commissions

Exclude canceled, returned and ineligible orders from realized revenue.

  3. Recover real costs

Include research, editorial work and maintenance in the content investment denominator.
