Scenario comparison

If a product normally earns $40 contribution per sale and a promotion reduces contribution to $30, volume must rise by about 33.3% to preserve the same total contribution.

A deeper discount requires progressively more incremental sales to break even.

Compare the required increase with historical promotion lift, inventory capacity, fulfillment capacity, returns, and customer acquisition cost.

A successful promotion may have goals beyond immediate contribution, such as customer acquisition or inventory clearance, but those benefits should be measured separately rather than assumed.
